Eduardo Santiere: Caligrafías

Press  Release

From August 2 through September 13, Galería 11 x 7 will have the pleasure of presenting the exhibition Eduardo Santiere: Caligrafías. The show will comprise recent works on paper, from the series: Interespacios , los “Scratching” (Starry Nights) y las Bio-construcciones [Interspaces, “Scratchings,” (Starry Nights), and Bio-Constructions].
Eduardo Santiere’s work  explores all the possibilities of paper. He uses color pencils, and beyond that, scrapes, lines, marks, and [delicately] damages the paper surface. The free forms that emerge in space from these procedures create an abstract figuration.
In her essay for the exhibition, Laura Batkis writes: “His work has the peculiarity of being unique. There’s simply no trend or style it fits into. Santiere has invented a personal mythology starting from pencil and paper. Experimenting with all the possibilities of the lightness of his medium, he began to scrape and scratch the paper as if to damage his very medium (el scratching, in his terminology). A controlled expressionism that gives his works the odd appearance of a lunar landscape. In certain works, he colors in pencil those textures which at times seem to be constellations (his Starry Nights series); in other instances, they seem more like musical scores or – his terminology, again – ‘Bio-Constructions.’”
